Ordered Steps
The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way. Psalms 37v23.

Sometimes you may feel like a great portion of your life is spent dealing with bad circumstances or making tough decisions. That is because life is all about making tough decisions. Everyday we have to decide things that affect our lives and families in various ways. This burden affects the young, middle-aged, and the old alike. The question of, “How do we make decisions that please the Lord?” becomes a constant concern.

In Psalms 37v23 David says that a good man’s steps are ordered by the Lord. David is referring to the woman or man who has surrendered to Christ and is walking according to His guidance. This is the kind of person that the Lord delights in, someone who holds their foot in midair and says, “Lord, please tell me where to place it.” Ordered by the Lord means to literally be directed, established, and planted by the Lord’s tender hand. Matthew Henry wrote about this Scripture, “By His grace and Holy Spirit He directs the thoughts, affections, and designs of good men. He has all hearts in His hand, but theirs by their own consent. By His providence He overrules the events that concern them, so as to make their way plain before them, both what they should do and what they may expect.”

It takes time to go before the Lord, to pray, and to seek Him about the situations and problems we are facing. How we actually make the decision will vary in each situation, but the motives with which we approach it should always be the same. Our approach should be that the Lord must have preeminence in all our decisions, and that we will wait upon His leading. The Lord will delight in that. He cannot direct our footsteps when we have a secret agenda in play. The most important thing for us to consider when making either a small decision or a big one, is that we must commit our very desires and the secret intentions of our hearts to the Lord.

We shouldn’t worry about the steps we take each day if we are committed to the Lord and are walking uprightly in His Word with the Token applied in our lives. He is faithful and will work all things for our good. Worrying will accomplish nothing if we have already placed the concern in His hands.

Place your cares and concerns in Christ, but don’t take them back out of His hands. Leave them there, for He delights in those who lean upon Him.

If today, if somebody could come around here and say, “I’ll give you a little pill, and that’ll absolutely inoculate you from every hydrogen bomb will ever fall. And you’ll live here on earth for a ten thousand years, through the millenniums and everything else, you’ll live here through that.” Why, you’d rush here (mercy) to get it. And tonight, if there was such a pill in the physical form, material form, it could be given. But I’m telling you tonight, that the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ will inoculate you from sin and death, and will preserve you forever in Christ Jesus through the ages to come. If you’ll come upon the basis of the shed Blood. No death can bother you. God’s promised to take care of you. “The footsteps of a righteous man is ordered of the Lord.” It ain’t whether you hang on or not; it’s whether He hung on or not. It isn’t what I do; it’s what He’s done for me.
